When you become a born-again believer, you enter into a new reality: you are in Christ. This means you carry within you the fullness of God Himself, as Colossians 2:9 reveals. This truth transforms how we see ourselves and our lives. Instead of living with a scarcity mindset, believing we have just enough to get by, we can embrace the abundant life God has provided. This post explores what it means to live in this divine abundance, our inheritance as children of God, and the authority we hold through Christ.

The Fullness of God Lives in Us
The Bible teaches that in Christ, all the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily (Colossians 2:9). This means God has placed everything we need to live a godly life inside us. Scriptures like 2 Peter 1:3-4 and 1 Corinthians 4:8 confirm that God equips us with divine nature and spiritual resources. We are not left to struggle on our own; instead, we carry the very power that raised Jesus from the dead (Romans 8:11).
This power is not theoretical or distant. The Holy Spirit lives within every believer, giving us access to eternal life and divine strength. Ecclesiastes 3:11 reminds us that God has set eternity in our hearts. We are not just physical beings but spiritual beings with a heavenly inheritance.
Our Identity as Children of God
Being born of God means we share His DNA (1 John 5:18). This spiritual identity shapes how we think and act. We have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16; Philippians 2:5), which means we can think, decide, and live as Jesus did. This is a radical shift from relying on our own understanding to living in alignment with God’s wisdom and purpose.
God has also put His name on us (Numbers 6:22-27), marking us as His own. This divine ownership means we belong to Him fully and completely. We are joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17), sharing in His inheritance and authority.
Exercising Authority Through Prayer
God has called all believers to be part of a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9). This role is not passive. As kings and queens, we are called to rule, and as priests, our method of ruling is prayer. Prayer is the tool God gave us to influence the earth and bring His kingdom here.
Jesus promised that believers would have authority over the enemy (Mark 16:17-18; Luke 10:17-19). Our prayers are powerful and effective, able to dictate what happens on earth in Jesus’ name (Matthew 18:18; Matthew 28:18; Colossians 1:13). This authority is not based on our strength but on the power of the Holy Spirit living within us.

Everything Belongs to Us in Christ
The Lord owns the world (Psalm 24:1; 1 Chronicles 29:14; Genesis 1:1), but He has temporarily given the earth to His children (Psalm 115:16). This means that as believers, we have stewardship and authority over the earth. Ephesians 1:22-23 says God put everything under Christ’s feet, and since we are in Christ, we share in that authority.
This truth challenges the poverty mindset many believers struggle with. Instead of thinking we have just enough, we can live with confidence that there is nothing missing in us. Philippians 4:13 says we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Colossians 2:10 declares that we are complete in Him.
Living Out Our Divine Inheritance
Understanding our identity and authority in Christ is only the beginning. We must live it out daily. Here are practical ways to embrace this abundance:
Renew your mind by meditating on scriptures about your identity in Christ.
Pray with authority, knowing your prayers have power to change situations.
Walk in the Spirit, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide your decisions and actions.
Declare God’s promises over your life and circumstances.
Serve others as part of your royal priesthood, bringing God’s kingdom to earth.
This lifestyle reflects the reality that we are not lacking but fully equipped and empowered.
Final Thoughts
The abundance in Christ is not a vague promise but a present reality. We carry God’s fullness, power, and authority within us. This divine inheritance calls us to live boldly, pray confidently, and rule wisely. When we embrace this truth, we move from surviving to thriving in every area of life.
